MIDTERM

The official date of your MIDTERM is January 15th.  January 15th is an intensive day and we will take the exam first thing.  Everything discussed in chapters 1-11, 19 and Orgo is fair game.  Format will look just like a real AP exam, just a little shorter.

Molecular Geometry Virtual Lab - 2013

Here is what some of my colleagues recommend....

Lab1
Lab2
Lab3

They are basically the same.  Some more detailed than others. Some containing weird/incorrect information.  Your goal is to familiarize yourself with bonding/hybrid orbital theory/molecular geometry through hands-on model building and using an applet to virtually build the same molecules.

I am looking for

a) Molecular Formula
b) Structural Formula (when appropriate)
c) 2D Lewis Structure
d) 3D Lewis Structure (when appropriate)
e) Hybrid Orbitals used in bonding around ALL central atoms
f)  Approximate bond angles around ALL central atoms

Note:  Expanded octet polyatomic ions are difficult to discuss in terms of molecular geometry.  Ignore them.  Most of the model builders do not do well with expanded octets.  I would utilize the physical models for them.

Utilize any of the model builders to the right of this post or at the following link -
